DIY Prog — Recipe

Below is the recipe I use to prepare my prog. I make no claims as to its efficacy, or suitability for internal use.

This recipe calls for micronized progesterone, the same active ingredient that is in the commonly prescribed gelcaps. Micronized progesterone is available over-the-counter and without a prescription in the US.

This recipe is not final; I expect it to evolve as I continue to experiment with process, ingredients, and ratios. However, it is the most current version that, when I make it, produces something that fits in my body and affects me similar to my prescribed dose.

By using these ingredients and instructions to prepare something that you then put in your body, you agree to bear exclusive responsibility for all positive and negative effects.

2 ml Prog Pessaries

 Amount%Ingredient
 275 g60Cocoa Butter
 166.25 g35Coconut Oil
 25 g~Progesterone
 25 ml5%Isopropyl Myristate
Yield2502 ml Units
@ 100 mg prog ea.

Time to prepare: about 1 hour and 15 minutes, plus at least 8 hours to cool.

This recipe is most like the recipe used in Attempt 1. Read the entry to learn more about its strengths and weaknesses.

When melting ingredients, unless otherwise indicated, heat slowly and no warmer than is necessary to reach the melting point. Try to avoid becoming impatient and overshooting with heat or trying to rush the cooling phase. Temperatures, and the rate at which they are achieved, make a difference to the outcome—particularly to the melting point of the final result.

When mixing one ingredient into another, add the ingredient slowly and stir constantly to ensure the result is well-mixed.

  1. Melt the cocoa butter in the smaller of your two vessels.
  2. Remove the cocoa butter from heat and allow to cool at room temperature until it appears to be re-solidifying.
  3. Gradually melt the coconut oil in the larger of your two vessels. For best results, heat to 90 °F/ 32.2 °C. (The goal is to favor the cocoa butter crystalizing in a way that obtains a preferable melting point).
  4. Slowly add the Isopropyl Myristate to the coconut oil.
  5. Slowly add the melted cocoa butter to the mixture.
  6. Put on your respirator.
  7. Slowly add the progesterone to the mixture.
  8. Remove from heat.
  9. Add mixture to 2 ml molds.
  10. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  11. Refrigerate for final cooling.
  12. Remove from molds and store refrigerated in an opaque container.

Progesterone is light sensitive. Light exposure should be minimized to the extent possible.

If you don't want to smell like chocolate, look for deodorized cocoa butter.
